REN MAI // CONCEPTION VESSEL // SEA OF YIN

The Ren Mai is on the first extra-ordinary meridians to form in-utero. It is powerful and majestic in nature. It represents our deepest resources in life and expresses life through the front body. It is receptivity and life in creation. It is our ability to be able to take in life – “sea of yin”- absorb, nourish, bond and nurture. It rules the process of conception, birthing and life cycles. When we are born, the Ren Mai moves us from the womb our mother to learn connection. The first imprints are our Mothers. We take in life though being held, cradled and through the action of suckling. As we move through life we strengthen our Ren by nurturing and being nurtured, connecting and bonding.

In Western Medicine, Ren Mai connects to the HPO Axis – Hypothalamus Pituitary Ovarian Axis. HPO Axis is the positive feedback system that regulates our endocrine system each month with a regular menstrual cycle. In yogic philosophy, the Ren Mai passes through each of the Chakra System. The Chakra system represents the function of the endocrine system through energy wheels. It connects with Root Chakra, Sacral Charka, Solar Plexus, Heart Chakra, Throat Chakra, Third Eye Chakra, Crown Chakra.

The Ren Mai meridian originates in the uterus and the perineum in males (central of the pelvic floor), from there it rises to the border of the pubic bone ascends along the midline connecting to storehouse; the bodies deepest energies – Ren 4 & Ren 6. Ascending to the abdomen (stomach), chest (heart), throat, pharynx, thyroid and jaw, ending at the groove just below the lower lip. Ren Mai connects with Du Mai through its internal pathways. There are 24 acupuncture points along the Ren Mai.
