What Are Perimenopause and Menopause?

Perimenopause occurs when your ovaries start to run out of eggs, your progesterone drops, and you feel less stress-resilient. The transition can last for 4-6 years (or longer), while your periods start to wind down and becomes less regular.

Perimenopause occurs until you reach menopause. During the last one to two years of perimenopause it is common to feel typical symptoms associated with menopause including hot flushes and mood swings as the rate that your estrogen is dropping begins to increase and your body is learning to adjust.

Menopause is defined as twelve consecutive months without a menstrual period, when you are no longer producing eggs.

Menopause is when your life as a woman comes full circle and your body is adjusting to living without estrogen (again) Your experience of menopause depends on your overall well being. This includes general health, sleep, exercise, reproductive & menstrual history, genetic makeup, anxiety/depression. These, as well as life events all impact your transition into becoming the goddess queen you know you are.

Common symptoms associated with periomenopause and menopause are:
  • Hot flushes
  • Breast tenderness
  • Decreased libido
  • Vaginal dryness
  • Fatigue
  • Urinary leaking and urgency
  • Mood swings
  • Breast tenderness
  • Sleep disorders

While we are often told these experiences are ‘normal’ if you are experiencing any of the following you may want to book an appointment to understand how we may support you in managing these symptoms. We believe that no women should settle for any of these symptoms. Your sex life deserves to be thriving at every age. Your mood deserves to be high. And fatigue can be left at the door. You are more than the sum of your symptoms.

You are a goddess stepping into her divine power (…something a hot flush isn’t going to derail!)
