It’s that time of year again. We are all in need of a well deserved holiday. With the spring winds and increase in stress levels we are more prone to catching colds.  There are specific yoga postures that can help cleanse your body, release toxins, infections and nasty bugs. Most are backbends that strengthen your adrenals and tonify your kidney function. Secondly, opening up your chest and respitatory system.

Getting your yoga on is an awesome way to build a strong defense system for your body.

Our immune system consists of cells, tissues, and organs that work together to protect the body and fight off infections and diseases. The thymus gland nestled behind the breast bone produces our T & B Cells that increase our immune function. These postures are important for auto-immune diseases.

Ustrasana (Camel): Opens up the chest, stimulates the kidneys and strengthens the adrenal function, reducing stress and depression. Allows you to open up to self and shifts through fear. It improves our respiratory and digestive systems.

Bhujangasana (Cobra): Stimulates the thymus gland nestled behind which sends out T-cells, a type of white blood cell that helps the body fight diseases, viruses and harmful substances.

Setu Bandhasana (Bridge pose): opens and expands the chest area, which also stimulates the thymus gland and improves circulation.

Matyasana (Fish pose) : opens up the upper body, heart and lungs. It stimulates thymus, which plays an important role in our  body’s defense mechanism.

Wheel pose (Urdhva Dhanurasana): Stimulates the thyroid and pituitary glands, therefore improving your overall health.
