Serotonin Smoothie

If you are feeling a wee bit ‘meh’ as your holidays have ended and are looking for something to put a smile back on your dial. Our resident Naturopath Lauren Campbell has shared her much loved (and requested) Serotonin Smoothie recipe. I can hear the buzz of our blenders ringing now!

1 tbls whey protein isolate (OMA brand) (or a rice/pea based one if you can’t have whey)
-1tbls cashew nuts
-1banana
-1tsp cinnamon
-1/2 tsp ginger powder
-1/2 tsp turmeric
-1 tbls healthy fat (coconut/flaxseed/hemp oil)
-almond/coconut milk/ water

This smoothie is designed to provide a boost of tryptophan and B vitamins to make our “happy hormone” serotonin. It may also help to stabilise blood sugar levels and provide satiety and a feeling of being grounded and stable throughout the day, especially on an “off” day or pre-menstrually.

P.S. if you are feeling true lack-luster, Lauren recommends popping in a spoon full of your favourite greens.
