Mix it up Monday: Bone Broth – Elixir of Life

Feb 22, 2016 | Uncategorized

Bone Broth has been around for centuries in many different cultures. Broth is medicine food and its benefits are extensive. In the west, we have just discovered the benefits of broth. What’s old is new again, and bone broth is right on trend.

What is all the rage about!

In the classics of Chinese Medicine, bone broth nourishes and tonifies the vital physiological functions that are the foundation of our health. Jing our essence (DNA), Wei Qi our immune system and function, Qi our life or vital force and Xue our blood. Broth elegantly supports our kidneys, warms our body, strengthens our yang, encourages blood flow and cultivates our qi and essence.

Cooking bones over a long period of time is a method that extracts the essence of the animal in a way that can be easily digested and assimilated. Broth is full of trace minerals such as magnesium, calcium, potassium and phosphorus all of which are easily absorbed by the body. Broth also contains two amino acids- glycine and proline. These two amino acids are responsible for a healthy immune system, muscle and gut repair and a balanced nervous system. When we consume broth we are nourishing our body on every level from building blood and marrow, to supporting our reproductive system, kidney and brain function.

When it comes to fertility, bone broth is the elixir of life. It is loaded with every amino acid and mineral our body needs. Along with collagen, fat and protein- all the building blocks to creating healthy embryos and babies. Broth supports you during every stage of your fertility journey- conception, pregnancy and post partum. Bone Broth is one of our foundational protocols we use in the clinic.

Broth directly improves egg quality. In clinic, I have seen women in their 40’s with great success from drinking broth daily. The results have been dramatic, from improved egg quality, to reaching PGD testing and a greater improvement in fertilization rates. I recommend a three-month protocol of drinking broth every day and longer if needed.

Ladies you have been asking me for months and months to write down my recipe. Here it is!

ANGEA BONE BROTH ELIXIR RECIPE
After years of cooking bone broth in a pot, my dear friend Kate Allan recommend I try a slow cooker. I have not looked back.

I recommend Organic Bones, no use of salt, pepper of herbs.

  • 2kg Organic Beef Shine Bone
  • 2 Organic Carrots
  • ½ Celery
  • 2 Tbs Apple Cider Vinegar
  • 5 litres of water
  • Cook for 24 hours in slow cooker.
  • Strain into glass bottles and refrigerate or freeze
  • As it cools, you will begin to notice it becomes like gelatin! This is the result we want.

In our household, we use 5 litres over 10 days. Our entire family drinks bone broth and we also cook with broth.
