FMT for Stress Induced Reproductive Dysfunction

Sep 18, 2017 | Uncategorized

Despite the name, Fertility Massage Therapy (FMT) is not just for women wanting to conceive. In fact, FMT can help ANY woman who is experiencing any kind of hormonal imbalance.

One of the (many) ways FMT can help is by down-regulating the stress response, reducing stress hormones and encouraging the natural rhythm of reproductive hormones…

How does this work?

We know that stress is one of the biggest barriers to hormone balance and conception. Adrenaline and cortisol (our stress hormones) literally block reproductive function by supressing the pulsatile release of gonadotropin releasing hormone- a hormone released by the hypothalamus in the brain which is responsible for stimulating the release of hormones from the pituitary gland that regulate ovulation. This is a survival mechanism for your body- it is saying- reproduction does not take preference here, this lady needs to keep running! This lady is also not in a healthy state to conceive as there is way too much stress in her environment. Your body is screaming “Shut ovulation down! Put all the energy into the nervous system!” as it holds you in a fight or flight response.

We need to break this cycle. We need to calm the nervous system right down. We need to improve adaption and resilience to stress so that when normal everyday stressors do happen- the response is minimal.

If we can do this- ovulation can return and regain its natural rhythm. I’ve seen it happen countless times with FMT. Getting my clients on the bed to bliss out for 1.5hours and teaching them how to bring the same techniques into their everyday life- is often the missing link. It changes everything.

What conditions can FMT benefit?

Whether you are experiencing irregular cycles, heavy painful periods, scanty or missed periods, FMT can help to restore balance. It also works wonderfully to re-establish the menstrual cycle that has been derailed by oral contraceptive pill use, chronic stress and polycystic ovarian syndrome.

“FMT is like getting the best massage of your life whilst also helping to restore your menstrual cycle and hormone balance- what could be better!”
